Richard P. Doyle, Jr.

Richard P. Doyle, Jr., has specialized for over 35 years in the area of intellectual property litigation, due diligence and counseling for technology driven companies.  He has over 20 years of experience as general counsel for clients and manages insurance, employment and litigation claims for those clients.

            Mr. Doyle has managed over 150 litigation matters, as well as many patent intellectual property  cases.  He is highly successful in identifying and negotiating business resolutions for his clients.  Notably, his experience includes being one of the first litigators to be a “plaintiff’s lawyer” in intellectual property litigation. In doing so, Mr. Doyle successfully represented a major video game company in the settlement of a patent infringement suit valued at over $80 million to his client.   He has helped to negotiate over $130 million in business deals for his clients and has settled over 100 matters in a mediation setting.  He also successfully pursued Qui Tam litigation with a $70 million settlement.

            As in-house counsel for Gamut Interactive, Mr. Doyle organized and managed the company’s intellectual property portfolio; closed a $17 million Series A round; converted certain debt holders to equity investors; coordinated bridge money towards a new financing round; handled employee stock issues and coordinated the company’s litigation. 

            As outside counsel for the ELM companies headquartered in Illinois,  he has managed all legal issues as the company has grown from under 100 employees in 2003 to over 1,000 employees in 16 states.

            Mr. Doyle was an Adjunct Professor at USF Law School teaching Patent Litigation for over 10 years, he is past-President of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association, was a technical law clerk to the Honorable Giles S. Rich of the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and a student law clerk to J. Thomas McCarthy on his Trademark Treatise.  He has been a lecturer on Intellectual Property issues.  Mr. Doyle earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Creighton University and earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco.

            Mr. Doyle does photography professionally and is involved in the arts in San Francisco, his hometown.

Michael J. Low

Mike has zealously represented individuals and institutions in dispute resolution and avoidance through litigation, negotiation, and practical counseling. He has tried jury and non-jury cases in state and federal trial courts and argued cases in the appellate courts.

Civil Tax Controversies: Taxpayers have engaged Mike to advance their interests in income, estate, employment, and sales tax compliance, audits, and appeals. When cases could not be resolved favorably at the administrative levels, he has represented clients in the United States Tax Court and the federal district courts.

Criminal Tax Investigations: Defendants, targets, witnesses, and victims have turned to Mike for representation in connection with pending or anticipated state and federal criminal investigations of tax and related financial crimes.


Employee Benefit Plan and Fiduciary Duty Litigation:  Mr. Low has also represented clients in state and federal civil litigation in which tax, accounting, trusts and estates, or fiduciary duty issues have been indirectly raised, such as disputes involving partnership accountings, real estate co-ownership, deferred compensation arrangements, and ERISA and non-ERISA retirement plan benefits.

Trusts and Estates Litigation: Mike has represented both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in disputes over trusts and estates issues such as accounts, contests, principal and income allocations, investment decisions, and transfer tax allocations.

Income and Estate Tax Planning:  Clients, often in concert with their other attorneys or financial professionals, have leveraged Mike’s experience in litigating the close cases by engaging him in connection with complex or uncommon tax planning and high-worth estate planning matters. 

Expert Witness and Consultant Engagements:  Mike has also been retained by other attorneys as a consulting and testifying expert on tax, trusts and estates, and retirement plan issues.

Professional organizations frequently invite Mike to lecture and author in the areas of tax and trusts and estates. Examples include “Taxation of Employment Litigation Judgments and Settlements,” Contra Costa Lawyer (March 2010); "Prosecuting Claims against Deceased Tortfeasors with Assets in Revocable Trusts," Contra Costa Lawyer (July 2006); and Criminal Tax Issues & Privileges, presented to the CalCPA, Contra Costa Discussion Group (2004).  He regularly participates in the Contra Costa County Bar Association; the Bar Association of San Francisco, the Tax Procedure and Litigation Committee of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California, and the Estate Planning Council of Diablo Valley.

Mike was born, raised, and educated in the Bay Area. After attending Lowell High School in San Francisco, he graduated summa cum laude from San Francisco State University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and criminal justice. He then graduated from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, where he received Prosser awards in Evidence and in Lawyering and the Criminal Justice System.

Catherine Doyle

Catherine has over 25 years in litigation and prosecution practice encompassing trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, patents, advertising, unfair competition, rights of privacy, wills, trusts and a variety of commercial transactions. 

Over the years, her role has included being an attorney with boutique law firms which has allowed here to work in a variety of roles for clients which has included acting as general counsel for small businesses to representing Fortune 500 clients.  She has also been engaged as a trustee for both contractual and litigation issues on behalf of families looking to enforce their rights.   

Catherine proudly served as the President of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association and was a Research Assistant to J. Thomas McCarthy, the leading authority in trademark law, on developing and creating new chapters for his treatise, Trademarks and Unfair Competition.

Nancy Doyle

Nancy is both the office manager and acts as a paralegal.  She has been with the firm since the firm opened for business.  Her computer skills including both Adobe products and Excel are instrumental to the firm’s litigation team.  She allows the firm to keep and manage certain computer based matters that would have to be sent out to third party vendors.
